This man tested out driving over a speed hump at a high speed to see what would happen.
Speed humps – or ‘sleeping policeman’ as they’re called in some countries – are designed to slow down cars, so that they stick to the speed limit.
But that’s led people to wonder – what would happen if you raced over them really fast?
Well, YouTuber Garage 54 wanted to get an answer, so they did some investigating.

Here’s what happened when this man drove over a speed hump at high speed
Speed humps serve a purpose, as everyone knows.
In fact, some people have even taken it upon themselves to make their own, like this American man.
Not even Ferraris are impervious to their effects.
But for the sake of this video, this YouTuber wanted to see how two cars would handle going over a speed hump. And to really make it a test, he added an extra hump, just for fun.

A Subaru Forester was the first car used for this test, during which it would be driven over two speed humps.
One was narrow but tall, built to state standards, while the second was a wider version.
At 40km/h, there was no discomfort.
When things were taken up a notch to 60km/h, there was a noticeable bump, but it was still manageable.

“I did feel a kick in the suspension, but nothing particularly unpleasant,” the host admitted.
You might expect that higher speeds would yield bigger impacts, but that wasn’t necessarily the case.
At 80km/h, he likened it to driving ‘over a stick’.
He decided to see what would happen if he hit the brakes and went over the bump with the suspension loaded up.
Doing this at a 40km/h made a noticeable difference, as the front axle absorbed a big shock.
“Okay, that was pretty intense,” he remarked.
When done under higher speeds with braking, the impact became ‘massive’.
And in a car with ‘bad suspension’, the impact is much harsher.

Taking on the wider version – things get ‘scary’
The team decided to switch over to the wider speed bump, where the Subaru Forester handled things well at 60km/h, despite it being ‘intense’.
At 80km/h, there was a noticeable bounce in the car.

“I actually got a bit scared back there,” the YouTuber admitted.
While we don’t doubt it was scary, it’s not quite on a level with what Jeremy Clarkson went through driving on Bolivia’s ‘Death Road.
Then, it was time to introduce some braking.
It went as well as you might expect.
“I just felt like a cowboy who got up onto some untamed cow or something,” he said.
In the car with bad suspension, even moderate speeds over both hump types caused violent motion.
The video ended with a safety reminder: maintain your vehicle, stay within speed limits, and take humps with caution.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen somebody incorporate speed bumps into an experiment – another creator did the same thing with a fake Chinese Rolls-Royce to compare it with the real car.
