It’s natural to reminisce about how long your school bus trips felt as a kid, but this man is going one step further.

The content creator shared his plan on social media to drive a classic yellow school bus 7,000 miles from New York to California and back.

While this would normally be a gargantuan task on its own, this wasn’t enough.

He even added several rules to the challenge, making it even more difficult.

Scott Fairnington shared his plans in a series of videos uploaded to Instagram.

While he’s not the first to turn a bus into an innovative project, he’s certainly quite creative with this one.

He has already bought the ‘cheapest, most iconic American vehicle ever’, in the form of a used yellow school bus.

His 7,000 mile route is likely more winding than necessary, given how the shortest route from New York to California is under 3,000 miles one-way.

Since he’s obviously going to need more fuel to make the trip without any stops, he revealed that he intends to strap six large fuel tanks to the bus.

These fuel tanks will supposedly hold over 1,000 gallons of fuel for the return journey.

And speaking of the fuel, this is where Fairnington added another challenge.

Describing himself as someone who doesn’t like paying taxes, he declared that he will also make the trip using homemade diesel.

This makes sense, given the cost to fill up your car is starting to get out of control.

In the video, he showed several barrels of used motor oil, which he intended to turn into his diesel.

While many of the man’s followers showed excitement for his trip, with some even offering to buy him cases of beer to celebrate his success, not everyone was overly optimistic.

Some people pointed out potential safety concerns, given that he will essentially be strapping large fuel tanks onto the vehicle.

Others pointed out that with the increased weight of the fuel, and the inefficient engine, he might not be able to make the entire trip without stopping.

Finally, there were concerns over the effectiveness of the homemade diesel, although at least he’s not trying to use jet fuel instead.

Nevertheless, most commentors showed optimism, and who can blame them?

If this mad lad pulls it off from New York to California without stopping, he should look forward to some free beer.
