Much shock and excitement rippled through the motoring world when ex-F1 Supremo Bernie Ecclestone’s car collection was sold for $650 million – and the buyer turned out to be the world’s richest young billionaire.

Mark Mateschitz, heir to the Red Bull empire, has an estimated net worth of $39.4 billion and is the proud owner of pretty much all of Ecclestone’s F1 history.

The collection includes five decades worth of the legacy of F1, including Niki Lauda’s ‘fan car’ and the BT44B and the BT46B too.

Ecclestone decided to sell his iconic collection because now he’s in his nineties, he wants to make sure his wife is doesn’t have to look after then. Who better to take on this iconic collection than Redbull racing royalty?

Bye, bye Bernie…

It seems crazy that anyone would want to give up such an iconic collection. It features five decades and over $650 million worth of iconic racing royalty, including Niki Lauder’s ‘fan car‘,

But now at the age of 94, Ecclestone has sold off his whole F1 collection.

The lucky new owner of the Eccleston F1 supercar collection is none other than the world’s youngest billionaire, Mark Mateschitz.

It doesn’t look too scary though because Mateschitz comes from good racing stock as the heir to the Redbull empire. So hopefully Ecclestone’s collection is in good hands.

$650M+ and five decades of F1 history

Ecclestone’s car collection is home to 69 cars including the Alberto Ascari Italian Grand Prix-winning 375 F1 – the first ever Ferrari to beat an Alfa Romeo – alongside Niki Lauda’s ‘fan car’, it’s truly a treasure trove of delights.

It would be great to see some of these stars of racing history back on the track. But it’ll also be interesting to see what will happen with this collection now it’s changed hands.

Hopefully they will be racing towards the future soon.
