This electric Porsche Taycan owner took his car in for its first service check and he was stunned by how expensive it was.

When making the switch from a gas or diesel car to an EV, cost is a consideration all drivers take into account.

For Lee, host of the YouTube channel The MacMaster, he was sceptical about EVs being cost efficient.

But how much would it hit his wallet once he took his Porsche in for a service?

This YouTuber’s expectations before taking his Porsche Taycan in for a service

Lee started off his video driving to the Porsche Center in Leeds, UK.

Right off the bat, he was honest about his feelings on electric cars.

He said: “I’ve not been an advocate for electric cars, really.

“To be quite honest, I think they’re rubbish and not the future, but we’re not going down that route.”

That’s a story for another video, it would seem.

Lee continued: “I’m taking the Porsche Taycan for its first ever service.

“You think that’d be cheap because it’s basically a battery on wheels.

“She’s done 19,849 miles.

“This car has had more recalls than Arnold Schwarzenegger.”

We’re sure Arnie would appreciate a good electric Porsche – he is the one who splashed $1 million on an electric off-roader after all.

Lee continued: “It’s going in for an aerial, because that’s not working properly, and it’s going in for new tires.

“The car eats up tires because it’s heavy because of the battery.”

Lee dismissed notions that owning a EV would prove to be cheaper than traditional gas cars.

He said: “It’s astronomical.

“It used to cost me about $864 (£700) for a service on my Boxster, which would be oil change, fluids, you get the idea.

“So I thought it’d be fairly cheap on an electric car. I went into Nottingham and asked them.

“And I have to be honest, they couldn’t really tell me.”

So when he got to the center, what sort of bill was he hit with?

The cost of an EV service

Fast forward towards to the end of the video, and Lee is leaving the Center feeling bemused.

He explained: “It’s the first time anyone has taken the time to explain what’s involved with the service of an electric car.

“You’d think it’s just batteries, but there’s quite a list of things on them they need to check.

“Electric cars are more expensive than a petrol or a diesel, especially if you don’t have a charging point at home.”

He kept hinting that he was anticipating ‘shock’ once he received the bill.

Was it quite that bad?

It came to $925 (£750) for the service alone, but new tires bumped the price up to $1,851 (£1,500).

This is a definite increase on what Lee said he was paying to service his Boxster.

Lee said: “Electric cars – not exactly cheap to run.

“I think if you’re running around town in a little Mini, and you’re charging at home, it might work out cheaper.

“But if you’re doing long journeys, I stick by what I said.

“EVs the future? Nah.”

At any rate, the Taycan is a beauty – even moreso when recreated as a model with a 3D pen.
