This Australian woman used a BYD Dolphin EV as her daily driver for a year and is sharing exactly why she rates it so highly.

The Dolphin is a bite-sized hatchback in BYD’s lineup, but it really packs a punch.

Naturally, it had its issues, but according to her, the pros outweighed the cons.

And after driving it for a full year, she said the Chinese EV really took her by surprise.

Driving the BYD Dolphin EV for a year

Elly from the Elly Awesome Tech YouTube channel shared her year-long experience of driving a BYD Dolphin EV in a video.

The car, a hatchback built for everyday city driving, was a long-term loaner from the automaker.

And just like the Seal, the BYD Dolphin is packed with techy features that really impressed her.

Starting off with the interior, it was brimming with tech — from a large infotainment screen to heated seats, it was a complete package.

You don’t normally see tech-filled hatchbacks these days, so this was a win-win.

As for practicality, Elly said its trunk space surprised her.

Despite the car being so little, she said ‘it’s crazy how much you can pack into this thing’.

The rear seats fold down flat to provide more space too, making full use of the car’s rear.

You could essentially take it for a road trip, unlike this $3,000 EV sent from China.

In terms of the battery and charging, Elly mostly used a home charger that was enough to provide a 300-mile range over a full charge.

She had the higher-end trim of the Dolphin, which comes with faster charging and a larger battery.

If you end up picking a lower-end trim, that would give you a 250-mile-plus range.

All BYD cars are also compatible with Tesla’s massive Supercharger network, so driving one will be hassle-free.

The YouTuber also mentioned that it was an excellent car for short people — as she was just above five feet tall and was super comfortable.

If you’re any taller, you might want to take a test drive first or consider your options, like BYD’s ‘dancing supercar’ that also happens to be the world’s third-fastest EV.
