This turquoise Koenigsegg CCXR wearing a Qatar plate was once wheel-clamped right outside Harrods, in London.

The hypercar reportedly belonged to Qatar’s Royal Family, which means that paying the $100 fine wouldn’t have been a big problem.

But getting it ‘unclamped’ might.

Although we have reason to suspect this sort of thing happens every day.

This Koenigsegg is proof Emir of Qatar knows what he’s doing when it comes to supercars

Back in 2010, a turquoise Koenigsegg CCXR was wheel-clamped right outside Harrods, in London.

The iconic store was bought by the Qatar Holding group in the same year.

The supercar is worth anywhere between $2 million and $2.5 million, which is still peanuts to the ruler of Qatar.

But that’s beside the point because what matters is that the CCXR is possibly the most important Koenigsegg ever built.

This supercar put the Swedish manufacturer on the map back when it was still unknown.

On E100 fuel, it was capable of reaching 400KM/H, which was impressive back in 2007, when it was unveiled.

The fine won’t have been that expensive, but the bureaucratic maze you have to get out of in order to get your car back is a nightmare.

Why this sort of thing happens on a regular basis

Billionaires from the Middle East – Qatar, UAE and Saudi Arabia but also Kuwait and Oman – have been flying their supercars to London for decades.

Every year – usually in the summer – they fly them to London, drive them around Harrods, and then take them back home.

Rinse and repeat.

Billionaires and millionaires from Europe do it, too.

But it probably stands out less because, in most people’s minds, loading a supercar onto a plane just so you can drive it (briefly) in a different continent feels a little more extreme than driving it from one country to another.
