New figures have revealed that EV chargers are being installed across the United States at a record rate.
When it comes to encouraging motorists to make the change from a gas-powered car to an electric vehicle, EV infrastructure is an important issue.
But EV drivers across the US will find life a little more convenient with hundreds of new charging stations opening up in the third quarter.
In fact, new data from the Department of Energy shows that Q3 had the largest EV infrastructure boom to date.

New data has revealed EV chargers are being installed at a record rate
Tesla’s Supercharger network has been rolling out at an impressive rate for months now, and it seems as though other companies, such as EVgo, are following suit.
Figures from the Department of Energy show that 780 public high-speed charging stations opened in the US in the third quarter, the biggest boom of its kind.

Across the first nine months of the year, EV charging infrastructure in the US has grown by 19 percent.
In August, Paren, a company that studies EV charging infrastructure, said the US could add up to 16,700 DC fast chargers in 2025 alone.
“At the current rate of growth, the number of U.S. fast charging ports will surpass 100,000 in 2027, nearly four times the number in 2022 and about double the number in 2024,” Paren said in a report.
The numbers have been boosted by retail outlets and restaurants fitting EV chargers to attract customers.
In May, Waffle House announced a joint venture with BP Pulse to bring EV fast chargers to its venues in the South.
Ikea, Target, Dunkin’, and Cracker Barrel have all also introduced more EV charging stations in 2025.
California now has more chargers than gas nozzles
While EV chargers are being installed at a record rate across the US, California is far and away the frontrunner when it comes to EV infrastructure.

So much so, it now has more EV chargers than gas pumps.
Figures from the California Energy Commission (CEC) earlier this month revealed that the state has a total of 201,180 fully public and shared electric vehicle charging plugs.
This means there are 68 percent more charging connectors than gas-pump nozzles.
“In the state of California, 94 percent of people now live within just 10 minutes of an EV charger,” Governor Gavin Newsom said.
