This Las Vegas man convinced his EV-hating petrolhead dad to take a drive in his Tesla Cybertruck for the first time.
YouTuber Vegas Tesla Carmen described his father as a ‘big car guy’, but this enthusiasm didn’t extend to electric cars.
However, his dad had never been inside of a Cybertruck before.
Would a drive be enough to convert him to EVs or would it reaffirm his dislike?

Did a drive in a Tesla Cybertruck change this EV-hating dad’s mind?
To ease his dad into the process, the YouTuber opted to take his dad for a spin in his Tesla Cybertruck – a Cyberbeast specifically.
His first impressions sitting in the passengers seat?
“Nothing.”
There was obviously some work to do.

After a short demonstration, it was dad’s turn to be behind the steering wheel.
At first, his dad doesn’t seem like a convinced customer as he came to grips with some of the tech.
When asked for his first impression, he responded: “I don’t think I like this square steering wheel.
“It’s different for sure, it’s something you get used to, I guess.”
Not exactly high praise so far, right?
But we’ve seen skeptics be changed to EV lovers before, so there was still time for this guy to switch sides.
Before long, the test drive had wrapped and it was time for dad to give his final verdict.

He inspected the Cyberbeast’s exterior, checking out the bed, the rear 4-wheel steering, and the storage limitations.
In particular, he noted that some of the body panels looked as if though they had been painted silver, rather than being made out of stainless steel.
On the whole, it wasn’t building to be an enthusiastic endorsement.
But was he just hiding his emotions?
What was this father’s final verdict?
The moment of truth had finally arrived – was Carmen’s dad convinced?
When asked if he would buy one, he speculated that he might if it was only $20k.
Given that a Cyberbeast costs over $100,000, it might be a while yet before Carmen’s dad will be heading over to a Tesla dealership.

His final words of advice for any fellow EV skeptics?
“If you’re on the fence, drive it. You’ll still be on the fence,” he concluded.
Carmen’s viewers expressed astonishment that his dad hadn’t been swayed.
“Your Dad is a tough cookie. First person I’ve even seen who didn’t smile when flooring a Tesla,” one person wrote.
“Dad’s determined to be unimpressed no matter what,” another remarked.
Oh well, you can’t win them all.
We’ve seen other EV haters change their minds, which is what happened over in the UK when four of them took a Skoda Enayq Coupe for a spin.
It’s a debate that will continue to play out for the next few years.
For advocates of electric, the lower costs of recharging compared to gas refills have often been cited.
And with one study finding that EVs were cleaner in practically every way, it’s easy to see why so many are switching over.
But then gas owners will note that electric cars have been linked to higher rates of depreciation – something this Porsche Taycan owner knows all too well.
