The car world is being dominated by new EV technology, prompting many drivers to make the switch from gas to electric cars.

Now, some owners have revealed all when it comes to charging habits, especially when living in an apartment with no charger.

From cost to convenience, there are plenty of additional elements to factor into ownership.

However, the task may be easier than you’d initially expect.

Here’s what really goes down owning an electric car with no charger

Apartment living comes with great perks, but it can also provide challenges – one of these being charging an electric vehicle directly from your own home.

Taking to the subreddit r/electricvehicles, one user named brucecooner asked for advice on behalf of his son, about which car to own while living in an apartment block.

He explained that his son would likely need a new car soon, but he rarely uses a car beyond visiting his parents or grocery shopping, and lives close to his workplace, so a Bolt was suggested.

“If you’re rocking an EV while living in an apartment, what sorts of unexpected complications have you faced?

“I’d like to know if this is an actually good suggestion or if I’d be setting him up for headaches down the road,” he wrote.

He also explained that he had seen Blink chargers in the parking lot, too.

So, in light of the questions asked by the inquisitive man, many owners flocked to help, and their responses may shock you.

Hit or miss? The answer was clear from other EV owners both near and far

You’d initially expect the answer to be somewhat complicated, but after many owners shared their experience, there was one blanket answer.

Owning an electric car while living in an apartment with no charger was totally doable.

“We have two EVs. Have lived in an apartment for the last four years. When we moved, we purposely chose an area with ample cheap charging. It has worked great for us, and is still cheaper than gas,” said one driver.

“I’m fortunate that our building has a parking garage with fixed spots. So I was able to put up a charger at my spot. Your son should have no problem using public chargers, given the very modest distances he looks likely to be driving. Half an hour at a charger once a week should do it. Or every other week,” shared another.

“I don’t have charging at my apt building. It’s been totally fine. I charge when I run errands. Love driving an EV so much – can never go back to ICE!” concluded a third.

It seems there really aren’t many circumstances that EV owners cannot seem to navigate, and for those in cities, owning an electric car and using public charging could be game-changing.

With cars such as the Tesla Model Y on the market, the range and charging options are vast, which leaves owners with endless possibilities.

Thanks to free charging, public chargers, designated spots within apartment complexes, plus hacks to use less power, owning an electric car has never been easier.
