An ex-Tesla owner has revealed the multiple ways in which alternative EV cars have overtaken the renowned brand but claimed that there is one thing he misses after switching to a Lucid Air.

Tesla remains the best-selling EV manufacturer in the world, with the Model 3 dominating charts in America.

But as technology continues to develop, are there now much better alternatives?

Well, one ex-Tesla driver of 15 years has revealed that the Lucid Air has burst past current Tesla models except for one major category.

Lucid Air driver details main Tesla differences

The Lucid Air might not be as quick in a straight line as the Tesla Plaid, but one man made the switch to the world’s most powerful sedan regardless.

‘Ian’ is the owner of a Lucid Air Dream (14th off the line), and has stood by his car despite having previously owned all ranges of Tesla cars. The American man recently attended a Zero Emissions Run event and caught the attention of popular YouTube personality Tesla Joy, and the two got down to comparisons quite quickly.

He notes that he owned Tesla cars since 2006, driving Roadsters, Model S, 3, X, and Y cars, but wanted to go to the ‘next level’.

What this level looks like is a smoother ride (especially at higher speeds), more luxury in the car, and more customizable driving modes.

The Lucid Air remains extremely fast, going 0-60 in 2.4 seconds, but has a much more exciting driving experience, according to the ex-Tesla driver.

Ex-Tesla driver explains the worst part about leaving

Tesla is actively working on upgrading its cars, with the Model Y Juniper prototype being spotted on multiple occasions, but its current crop isn’t as creamy as the Lucid Air, according to this former enthusiast.

Despite the concessions in speed compared to a Plaid, Ian was content with the performance, but one element of the cars did stand out over alternatives: The software.

“The hardware on this car from day one is amazing, but the software is continuing to be improved. This has a version of [autopilot], but nothing like Tesla at the moment.”

The man did confess that Tesla walked so that cars like the Lucid Air can run, and soon these like-minded alternatives will catch up and overtake them from a software and technology standpoint. But, in the meantime, Tesla reigns supreme in this category.

There is a small matter of cost to bear in mind though, as a basic Lucid Air costs upwards of $70,000, significantly more than many Tesla models.

Maybe neither car is optimal though, and this Chinese alternative will conquer the electric world.
