After building a ‘fake’ Mercedes-AMG GT comprising parts ordered from Temu, this content creator has now compared it to the real deal, and the differences are interesting.

DIY Engineers have been getting quite creative with building custom supercars on a shoestring budget.

Mainly thanks to platforms like Alibaba and Temu, where 3D prints of car parts are not in short supply.

So, after hand-crafting this Temu-fied Mercedes-AMG GT, it was time for UK creator Chris Slix to see what he could put together.

‘Fake’ Mercedes-AMG GT shows only small differences in side-by-side comparison

Slix has been documenting his Mercedes-AMG GT rebuild on YouTube, where he has managed to create a spectacular car that looks and sounds almost perfect.

But having only ever had it in his garage and on the road, he decided to check out whether it would hoodwink other supercar owners, should he ever turn up to a show.

Placing it side-by-side next to a real Mercedes-AMG GT, thanks to the help of a supercar fanatic friend, he was able to see just how convincing his job was.

Straight off the bat, they looked inseparable.

However, there are some key differences that you can only tell when they are next to each other.

The first is the height.

The real GT is low-riding, and while the Temu mimic is quite low itself, it’s clear that the bodywork isn’t as small.

Then there’s some more technical differences, especially where the grilles are concerned.

The hood vents are different, as Slix’s are truly fake and don’t serve a purpose aside from aesthetics.

Slix’s Mercedes also had a bigger wing size and spoiler integration.

But to an untrained eye, this $40,000 rip-off is almost inseparable from the $457,000 real version.

How close can Temu purchases get to the real deal?

This isn’t Slix’s first Temu rodeo, as a McLaren 675 build soon followed the Mercedes AMG.

That particular project has been incredibly convincing, excelling on the road after its maiden voyage.

He’s also not the only person to use Temu parts to build convincing supercar knock-offs, as another McLaren design and an upgraded BMW M240i have proven that you can get damn close to the real deal.

But, it’s worth noting that this isn’t always the case, as is the case with this motorbike.
