The fastest jets a civilian can own may not be at the level of Concorde but they're no slouches either

The fastest jets a civilian can own may never dethrone Concorde, but they still move fast enough to make commercial first class feel painfully slow.
These aircraft are built for people who value their time, turning coast-to-coast and intercontinental trips into surprisingly short trips.
While none of them carry paying airline passengers at Mach 2, they deliver performance that borders on the unbelievable for privately owned machines.
Best of all, on most of these jets, you’ll be flying in absolute luxury.

A Concorde successor recently entered service
At the top of the list of the fastest jets a civilian can own sits the Cessna Citation X+.
Long regarded as the gold standard for speed in private aviation, the X+ can cruise at up to Mach 0.935, just a breath away from breaking the sound barrier.

Its aggressive wing design and powerful Rolls-Royce engines were engineered with one thing in mind: getting places fast.
Though production ended in 2018, the Citation X+ remains a favorite among owners who care less about novelty and more about raw performance.
The Gulfstream G800 takes a slightly different approach by blending high speed with enormous range.

With a maximum operating speed of Mach 0.925, it’s nearly as quick as the Citation X+, but it can also fly more than 8,000 nautical miles nonstop.
That means city pairs like New York to Dubai or London to Singapore are possible without refueling.
While onboard, passengers can enjoy a whisper-quiet cabin, expansive windows, and one of the most advanced cockpits ever fitted to a business jet.

Then there’s the Bombardier Global 8000, currently billed as the fastest civil aircraft since Concorde.
Capable of reaching Mach 0.94, it edges out its rivals while offering exceptional range and comfort.
Bombardier designed the jet to fly higher and faster than anything else in its class, giving owners bragging rights that few other civilian aircraft owners could match.

Business jets aren’t the fastest jets a civilian can own
If civilian jets aren’t your thing, here’s the most extreme option of all: a Russian fighter plane, the MiG-29.
While it’s undeniably a miliary aircraft, demilitarized MiG-29s can legally be owned by civilians in certain countries.

With a top speed exceeding Mach 2, it leaves every business jet behind.
Private collectors and defense contractors have operated these aircraft for years, even late Microsoft co-founder Paul Allan had one in his collection.
As it turns out, with enough money, anything is possible.
