Ferrari isn’t a brand that plays by anyone’s rules, and now the Italian renegade is ripping up the book with its most powerful rear-wheel-drive supercar ever to join the ranks of hybrids: The 296 Speciale range is here.

The Prancing Horse has been galloping at breakneck speed already in 2025.

But while all eyes have been on the Daytona SP3 and the news of its first-ever all-electric supercar, the 296 Speciale has slipped under the radar.

Not only has it gone undetected, but the new supercar is an absolute king of hybrids.

Ferrari 296 Speciale – a new dawn of hybrids

A long list of upcoming Ferrari supercars has been keeping fans buzzing

Especially with the specially-designed E-building getting behind an unnamed EV, piquing interest from all corners of the car community.

But it’s the hybrids that have struck first, as the 296 Speciale and its open-top sister Speciale A have just been announced at an event in Maranello.

Rolling up alongside the Challenge Stradale, 430 Scuderia, 458 Speciale, and 488 Pista, the 298 Speciale is one of Ferrari’s signature berlinettas, and this hybrid beast is one of its finest yet.

Taking the already-impressive 296 GTB as its base, the Speciale edition squeezes everything it can out of the twin-turbo six-cylinder engine thanks to the racing blueprints of the Challenge model.

An extra 50HP – taking it up to 880hp – makes it the most powerful rear-wheel-drive car Ferrari has ever made, and its speed is clear for all to see.

The Italian giants claim that it bursts from 0 to 62MPH in 2.8 seconds, 124MPH in 7.0 seconds, and maxes out at over 205MPH.

“[It] has been conceived to set the new benchmark in terms of driving thrills and engagement, not just for the marque’s production range, but for the segment as a whole,” claimed the company.

296 Speciale A

Of course, with the Italian marque, substance is always followed by style, and the Speciale A convertible takes pages from previous Spiders and Speciale models to ooze class.

Both cars have been put on a weight-saving regime to shave off 60kg to create a fantastic-looking supercar, which only gets better when the top comes off in the Speciale A.

The prices of the 296 Speciale and Speciale A have yet to be revealed, but owners will benefit from a seven-year maintenance plan.

The future really is rosso red as even more of these incredibly special cars are in the works, such as the Lewis Hamilton F40 revamp.

And then there’s the possible manual throwback to get excited about…
