‘Most expensive barn find’ detailers have found was an abandoned Ferrari 512 BB lost for 28 years

  • The 512 BB is one of the most iconic Ferraris ever built
  • BB stands for Berlinetta Boxer, because the car uses a flat-12
  • This example in particular hasn’t been washed in 28 years

This Ferrari 512 BB spent over 20 years rotting away inside an abandoned barn.

Time has taken its toll on this car but there’s still hope.

With time, effort, patience (and money), the car can be restored back to its former glory.

After all this car is already worth a lot, even in this condition.

An incredibly expensive barn find

The car was discovered by WD Detailing, the same guys that brought an abandoned Mazda RX-7 back to life.

This Ferrari 512 BB is in terrible condition, as you’d expect from a car that’s been rusting away for 28 years.

The tires are mushy, there’s rust everywhere, the interior is ruined and the engine is in desperate condition.

But everything is doable, and with enough care and cash, this Ferrari could potentially make its owner a lot of money.

The car already looks a million times better after a simple wash.

The story behind the Ferrari 512 BB

The 512 BB is probably the most recognizable representation of the BB series that Ferrari produced for about a decade between the 1970s and 1980s.

The 364 BB that was discovered in a barn in Belgium, for example, is part of the same family.

BB stands for Berlinetta Boxer, which is a reference to the type of vehicle and also to the type of engine.

Berlinetta, because that’s the term that Ferrari more or less coined to define two-door sports coupes.

And then Boxer, because all BB models used flat-12 engines, ie boxer engines.

The 512 BB uses a 4.9-liter flat-12, putting out 360 horsepower.

This is a rare car, and it’s also valuable.

A Ferrari 512 BB in good condition generally commands hundreds of thousands of dollars in the secondary market.
