Last year, Florida and Texas flew more private jets than all 27 countries in the European Union put together.
Most people know that the U.S. is a huge market for private jets, but the the incredible gap between the jets-to-population ratio in the U.S. versus everywhere else is still shocking.
And we should also address the elephant that is not in the room.
Because there’s a place in the U.S. that has fewer private jets than people thought.

These two states alone have more private jets than the EU
We should start from the elephant that isn’t the room: California.
Most people would naturally assume most private jets are in California but that’s not the case.
Florida and Texas, apparently, take this particular crown.
In fact, last year, there were more private jet flights in Florida and Texas (as in, departing or arriving) than the entire European Union which, as a reminder, comprises 27 countries.
And sure, some of those countries have a GDP that’s nowhere that of Texas or Florida, but it’s still impressive.

France, one of the most private jet-friendly countries in the EU, registers 107 flights per 10,000 people.
By contrast, there are 687 private jet flights for every 10,000 people in the United States.
The top 25 list of busiest airports for private jets features five Florida airports and four airports in Texas.
California ‘only’ has three.

How did we get here?
This surprising statistic is probably the by-product of the California exodus that started over a decade ago.
Since 2010, California has been experiencing a net population loss with more out-migrants than in-migrants for 14 consecutive years.
This includes companies that are likely to use private jets for their executives, and people who use private jets pretty much every day like Elon Musk, who currently resides in Texas and also relocated nearly all of his companies to Texas.
Jeff Bezos also contributed to this particular record set by Florida and Texas.
Bezos’ companies are based in Washington state and Virginia, but Bezos has properties in both Florida and Texas.
