This Florida man got his hands on a junk Corvette at auction and soon realized he’d struck gold with a perfect time capsule.
From the outside, this ‘Vette may look dusty.
But on closer inspection, YouTuber Samcrac realized that the interior had been perfectly preserved.
It may have been an auction car, but it looked brand new.

Inside the time capsule Corvette
This Chevrolet Corvette ended up at auction and labelled as salvage, seemingly because it’d been involved in an accident.
While not totally catastrophic, the collision was enough for the car’s insurers to consider it a loss.

This news would certainly take most by surprise, as the Corvette appeared to be in pretty good shape.
It really did look like a time capsule, which we always love in a car.
In addition to being easy on the eye, the car only had 4,510 miles on the clock.
That’s not much at all – even lower than the 1977 Corvette which was already below average.
But while the Chevy’s interior may have looked pristine, the engine’s condition was anything but.

Getting it revved up took a bit of work, as Sam attempted to jumpstart the car using jumper cables.
However, he concluded that the battery was too weak and would need replacing.
But once it had a new battery, and a few other issues were fixed – electrical glitches and dashboard warning lights – the restoration made good progress.
Did this car deserve to be designated as junk?
Inside the car’s center console were some papers from a trip to the shop back in June 2015.
They indicated that the previous owner had come in with complaints that the engine ‘cranks over,’ but wouldn’t start.

An inspection found that bad fuel in the system had caused damage to the pump and injectors.
“So the car essentially had the same issue that we’re dealing with now,” Sam explained.
It just goes to show that some issues can persist if they’re not addressed early on.
After doing some internet sleuthing, Sam spotted a photo of the car sat outside, with things leaning against it.
Given that the car had come from Florida, he worked out that spending tons of time out in the southern heat would go some ways to explaining its problems.
Heat does strange things to cars – just look at these ‘pregnant’ autos in China.

And that goes double for the dry rotted tires.
Despite all that, Sam was confident he could get the car running again for less than the $3,000 the previous owner had spent in 2015.
