US man used his Tesla Cybertruck to tow a Ford F-250 to a mechanic and admits 'the irony was not lost on me'

A Tesla Cybertruck owner found himself in a slightly unexpected situation when his electric pickup was called upon to rescue a much older kind of American truck.

The unlikely pairing involved a Ford F-250, a trailer and a trip to a mechanic, with the Cybertruck doing all the heavy lifting.

The owner said the journey gave him a chance to see what his Tesla could really do when faced with a serious load.

And, as it turned out, there was a pretty funny detail about the truck being rescued.

The Tesla Cybertruck had a 10,000-pound load behind it

A Tesla Cybertruck owner from Florida named Joseph recently needed to get his old Ford F-250 to a mechanic.

Rather than calling a traditional tow truck, he hooked the Ford up to a trailer and used his Tesla to haul it there.

The combined weight of the trailer and Ford was around 10,000 pounds, according to Joseph, who said the Cybertruck handled the load smoothly and without any issues.

He was impressed by how effortlessly the electric pickup managed the job, particularly given that towing is one of the situations where the weight and range of an EV can become particularly important.

Tesla designed the Cybertruck to be a serious workhorse, with its towing ability being one of the features highlighted when the truck was launched.

But this particular towing job had an amusing twist.

The Ford F-250 was heading to the mechanic

The vehicle sitting on the trailer was an old Ford F-250 powered by a 7.3-liter Power Stroke diesel engine.

That meant the Cybertruck wasn’t simply hauling another vehicle – it was hauling one of the types of trucks that traditionally represents everything the electric pickup is trying to challenge.

Joseph apparently appreciated the irony, too.

“The irony of the Cybertruck hauling the old 7.3 Power Stroke to the mechanic was not lost on me,” he said on his post on the Tesla Cybertruck Owners Club.

The image of a futuristic electric pickup quietly pulling a diesel-powered Ford Super Duty to a repair shop is certainly an unusual one.

And while this was only one owner’s experience, it gave Joseph a chance to put the Cybertruck’s towing abilities to use in a very real-world situation.

For all the arguments about whether electric trucks can replace traditional pickups, there was no debate about which truck was doing the towing on this particular trip.
