This Florida YouTuber had spent $42,000 on what he thought was Buzz Aldrin’s jet, and he is now trying to make it airworthy.

YouTuber Jimmys World spent a lot of money on this Learjet when it went to auction, but it turned out that it didn’t have any connection to the astronaut.

He’d never owned the plane, never flown in it, or never even seen it – his name was just on the vinyl sticker.

But Jimmy wasn’t going to let a good plane go to waste, and he wanted to make this aircraft flyable again.

This Florida YouTuber is working on ‘Buzz Aldrin’s jet’ to get it flying again

Jimmy Webb secured Buzz Aldrin’s jet when it went up for auction.

It was a Learjet 23, with six to eight seats onboard.

There was a lot of promise with this jet, particularly as Aldrin’s signature was all over the plane.

But alas, things weren’t quite as they seemed.

He began getting phone calls, emails, and messages suggesting that the jet wasn’t as it was originally advertised.

Apparently, the NASA and Buzz Aldrin branding wasn’t added to the plane until after the 2000s.

Whoops.

Nevertheless, he had it now, and he had to make some lemonade out of this lemon.

The plane’s body has been riddled by heavy corrosion after being stored outside Cape Canaveral and left open to the salty air.

But that wasn’t the only problem that would need to be addressed.

Would this Learjet 23 fly again?

Both engines would need rebuilding at a cost of $250,000 each, and that wouldn’t be the only expense – a noise-reduction system would set him back between $400,000 and $500,000.

If this plane had a prayer of being airborne again, it would need a major inspection in which the fuselage would be separated from the wing structure.

There was a whole laundry list of things that would need to be inspected.

He weighed up several alternative futures for the aircraft if it wasn’t airworthy – it could go to a museum, be sold to an aviation school, or be traded to an interested viewer.

Jimmy also floated the idea of turning it into a custom vehicle, as he’d previously done to Elvis Presley’s jet.
