Florida’s new Super Speeder law just took two minutes to start having an effect.

The state’s ‘Super Speeder’ law, known officially as House Bill 351, came into effect at midnight on July 1, 2025.

It took just two minutes for a driver to be sent to jail for going 104mph in a 70mph zone.

Under the new law, police can arrest anyone driving 50mph over the posted speed limit – or any speed above 100mph.

Florida’s new Super Speeder law just took two minutes to have an effect

Law enforcement in the Sunshine State didn’t have to wait long to enforce the new Super Speeder law.

Within two minutes of it coming into effect on July 1, 2025, they’d arrested a man in Orange County.

His crime? Driving 104mph in a 70mph zone.

Under the new law, anybody driving more than 50mph over the limit on the given road can be arrested.

You may be thinking ‘Hang on, but 104mph is only 34mph above 70. What gives?’

Well, the law also applies to anybody driving more than 100mph in general.

In effect, this law turns excessive speeding into a criminal charge, having previously been a traffic offence.

This can land offenders with up to 30 days in jail and a fine, if it’s their first time.

Repeat offenders can spend up to 90 days behind bars.

Since the law came into effect, several other people have found themselves handcuffed.

One man was arrested in Cape Coral for driving at speeds up to 101mph.

When pulled over, his excuse was that ‘he was hungry’, Fox4Now reported.

The speeding law is already having an impact in other ways, as it prompted this Lamborghini owner to give up his car.

Driving laws vary from state to state

The US is a big country, and with 50 states across the land, there’s bound to be some variations in driving laws.

For example, in one state, people aren’t allowed to pump their own gas.

In Tennessee, teenagers risk losing their license if they’re caught bullying.

Up in Ohio, the state is also making it tougher for teens to get behind the wheel.

And over in California, the law is clamping down on street takeovers and similar events.

But no matter where you are in the country – or in the world, really – speeding isn’t a good idea.

And if you do it in Florida, you could end up sitting in a jail cell for up to three months.

Florida’s new Super Speeder law is just one of many laws coming into force around the country to curb dangerous driving.
