A US man who bought a Ford Explorer former police vehicle for just $2,000 says the vehicle comes with an interesting unexpected use.

The ‘Police Edition’ Explorer was used as a pursuit vehicle in a former life, but was later retired and sold.

The car enthusiast admitted that he ‘didn’t need or expect’ to win the 2017 Ford Explorer at auction but is more than happy with his purchase.

Because even before he hit the road with the car he found it had a ‘good use’.

The Ford Explorer Police Edition had an unexpected bonus

Many police forces across the US and further afield have been boosting their fleets with updated vehicles, like the Las Vegas Metro Police Department which recently added 10 Cybertrucks, or Dubai Police’s exceptional supercar fleet which includes a Mansory P720 and McLaren Artura

But back in 2017, the Ford Explorer PPV was pretty much at the cutting edge of police vehicles.

YouTuber The Car Addict recently got his hands on one after spotting it up for auction, managing to snap up the vehicle for just $2,000.

And even before he got a chance to get behind the wheel, he had already discovered a very cool use for the car.

“I haven’t even driven it yet,” he admitted in a clip uploaded to YouTube. “I don’t even know if it has gears.”

However, with the car parked up on the lawn outside his house, he soon noticed it caused an unusual phenomenon with passing motorists.

“I stuck it over here on the corner by this main highway here, which is great because people see it and they immediately start slowing down,” he revealed.

“See how slow they’re going?” he noted as cars drove past. “People are generally flying down this road.”

The Ford’s new owner is more than happy with his purchase

Given that the car is around eight years old and had a past life as a police vehicle, it’s not in bad shape.

Sure, it needs some TLC and is set to have a ‘full detailing’ at some point, according to its new owner.

But it runs fine, the air conditioning works, and all of the vehicle’s lights and signals work as they should – overall, the buyer is pretty chuffed with his $2,000 purchase.

“As good as this thing runs this would not scare me at all to take out and drive, like use regularly,” he said. “Not a problem. I would absolutely use this.”
