The beloved Ford F-Series has been America’s best-selling truck for almost 50 consecutive years, cementing itself a place in the automotive record books.

Ford launched its light-duty F-Series all the way back in 1948 and was originally known as the Ford Bonus-Built.

Fast-forward almost 80 years, and the Ford F-Series is still going strong.

In fact, new data has just revealed the F-Series was America’s best-selling truck for the 49th year in a row, and there are a few reasons why this should come as no surprise.

The Ford F-Series has spent almost half a century as America’s best-selling truck

Holding the top spot for 49 years is no mean feat.

During that time, Ford has sold around 34 million F-Series trucks

As we enter the new year, Ford has taken a moment to celebrate its F-Series by releasing data that confirms its long-running place as America’s best-selling truck.

The carmaker sold more than 800,000 F-Series trucks last year, safely securing its spot as America’s favorite.

And the marque has absolutely no plans to allow that title to slip anytime soon.

“Selling 34 million trucks since 1977 is a staggering statistic, but statistics are backward-looking,” Ford said in a statement.

“In Dearborn, we view 48, 49, and if we do our job right, 50 years, not as a finish line where we get to stop and celebrate, but as mile markers on a very long journey.”

Ford also took the opportunity to look to the future of the F-Series, including the new F-150 Lobo that comes with a 5.0-liter V8 engine and lowered suspension.

Ford recently scrapped the F-150 Lightning, but there’s something exciting on the way

Earlier this year, Ford announced that its F-150 Lightning would be retired after just three years.

In the newly released statement, Ford said it had ‘heard what worked’, but, ‘more importantly’, it had also learned what hadn’t worked so well, including problems when it came to towing heavy loads over long distances.

However, it’s not the end for electrified F-Series trucks.

Ford is now working away on the next-generation F-150 Lightning Extended Range Electric Vehicle that will offer the ‘nearly instant power of an electric powertrain and the freedom of a generator-backed estimated range of more than 700 miles’.
