The Ford Mustang Mach-E just pulled off something pretty impressive.
It outsold the gas-powered pony car… and not just by a little.
Last month, the EV Mustang doubled its internal combustion sibling in sales.
And the numbers are even more interesting when you zoom out.

So how did an electric crossover beat the classic pony car?
August was the month the math turned heads.
Ford delivered 7,226 Mach-Es compared to just 3,235 ICE Mustangs – more than a two-to-one split.
If you look at the sales numbers for the whole year, the same pattern is true – Mach-E is still ahead of the gas Ford Mustang.
Through the first eight months of 2025, the Mach-E has moved 34,319 units, up nearly 7 percent from last year.

The ICE Mustang sits at 31,015 sales, down 8 percent over the same stretch.
The truth is, pony cars have always been fragile in shaky economies.
For decades, the Mustang was tagged as a ‘second car,’ a young person’s toy, even carrying the nickname ‘secretary’s sports car.’
That reputation bites when wallets tighten.
With the Camaro gone and the new electric Charger still hunting for buyers, the segment is shrinking fast.
The Mach-E, though, wears the Mustang badge while adding something the coupe lacked – practicality.
Sweeten that with 0 percent financing, a $7,500 tax credit, and a free home charger, and the EV becomes even harder to ignore.

And don’t think the Mach-E is just rising because the coupe is falling.
August’s 3,235 ICE sales were actually up 2.2 percent year-over-year – a solid month in the modern Mustang era.
The difference is that Ford’s EVs are growing faster.
Across the brand, electrics hit 10,671 sales in August, up more than 19 percent from 2024.
Hybrids jumped nearly 24 percent.
Ford overall is only up 4 percent across all models, so electrification is clearly the growth engine.
The Ford Mustang Mach-E is taking over the industry
The Mach-E isn’t just outmuscling its gas sibling – it’s also edging out rivals.
In a recent showdown, the 2025 Mustang Mach-E was crowned the winner over the refreshed Tesla Model Y, taking the lead on comfort, value, and steadier driver-assist tech.
And this sales streak isn’t new.
Earlier this year, the Mach-E officially surpassed the gas-powered Mustang in quarterly sales, with younger buyers turning to EV practicality over coupe nostalgia.
All of which points one way: the Mustang’s center of gravity has shifted.
The future of the Mustang isn’t under the hood – it’s plugged into the wall.
