Gatik is set to have the largest fleet of self-driving trucks in North America thanks to a new announcement from the truck giant.
The self-driving trucks will be rolled out in the Greater Toronto Area in partnership with Loblaw Companies Limited.
By the end of 2026, more autonomous trucks will be hitting the road than ever before, with 50 set to be introduced.
It’s thanks to a special program that the expansion is being rolled out.

Gatik is making history with a new rollout of self-driving trucks
Technology is ever advancing in the car world, with new scientific discoveries playing a major part in how the scene is evolving.
One of the newer additions to vehicles consists of self-driving modes, with the element making drivers’ lives easier every day.

Now, one company has used the technology to its advantage and is set to make history in Canada.
Thanks to the partnership between Gatik and Loblaw, there are set to be more autonomous vehicles than ever before.
Now, 50 new self-driving trucks will be on the roads by the end of 2026.
“This is a transformational moment, not just for Gatik and Loblaw, but for the autonomous trucking sector globally,” said Gatik CEO and co-founder Gautam Narang.
In the first phase of the expansion, 20 autonomous trucks will be deployed by the end of 2025 that will have a ‘next generation sensor suite’ installed.
“The expanded fleet will initially be deployed with safety drivers onboard, before transitioning to Freight-Only (driverless) operations across Loblaw’s regional distribution networks,” the company stated in a press release.

30 autonomous trucks will be distributed by the end of next year, too.
In preparation, Gatik worked closely with the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario to ‘inform the development’ of the Automated Motor Vehicle Pilot Program, which enables the company’s autonomous trucks in the area.
Autonomous vehicles are taking over the industry
Gatik isn’t the only company using autonomous technology to its advantage.
Car giant Toyota has also recently announced the e-Palette, a $200,000 autonomous EV that looks straight out of a sci-fi movie.
Plus, last month, AutoFlight, an autonomous cargo eVTOL, completed the world’s first 300km offshore mission.
