A Georgia man has taken the iconic Foxbody Ford Mustang muscle car and transformed it into a powerful EV while retaining all its original features.

YouTubers and tuning shop FuelTech in Georgia were the team behind the conversion, with them taking a Ford Mustang Foxbody from the 1990s and converting it.

While some might bemoan EV conversions of classic cars, the team tried to retain as much of the original car as possible.

That even includes the car keeping the stick shift transmission, allowing drivers to shift through the gears as normal.

How was the Ford Mustang muscle car turned into an EV?

Naturally, the original engine from the Ford Mustang has been pulled out of the car to make it an EV.

Aftermarket parts were also used in the conversion, with the team staying clear of Tesla components.

The battery pack was split between the front and rear of the car, keeping the weight distribution balanced.

But it’s the decision to keep the manual transmission that makes this car so special.

That allows drivers to shift gears just like you would in a car with an internal-combustion engine.

An EV doesn’t normally need gears, so keeping it is highly unusual.

But it does ensure that this particular electric Ford Mustang stands out from the crowd.

This Mustang is lighter than it was originally

Amazingly, despite the battery packs, this Foxbody Mustang is lighter than it was originally.

Ripping out the engine and transforming the car has shed 50lbs of weight from the muscle car.

In total, the Mustang now has 500hp and 700lb-ft of torque, so there is a lot of stress on the transmission.

Sadly, FuelTech USA has kept quiet about what capacity the battery packs are.

That means we don’t know how far this car can go before the Mustang needs recharging.

There is also no word on how long, or perhaps how fast, like with this battery, the car will recharge.

The idea of converting a classic car into an EV, like Scout Motors does, probably doesn’t sit well with some.

Yet it’s a practice becoming more and more popular, and it’s a novel way of reviving certain cars.

Plus, it is much cooler than quite a few electric cars that are currently on sale.
