Somewhere in Las Vegas, there are supposedly driverless cars with no steering wheel operating on the streets, although not everyone has seen one.
Carter and Matt from YouTube channel RAR Garage weren’t sure whether to believe these cars really existed.
One believed it was real, while the other thought it was too good to be true.
So the pair decided to settle this debate by flying to Las Vegas to check it out.
Robotaxis weren’t exactly everywhere in Las Vegas
The trip didn’t exactly start with confidence.
Before leaving, they thought it was fitting to head to the airport using their Tesla Cybertruck’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) function.

However, FSD quickly proved it still needed human supervision, drifting into the wrong side of a driveway by accident.
It reinforced the duo’s skepticism: if this was the best widely available tech, how could something fully driverless already exist?
Touching down in Vegas only added to the uncertainty.
After renting a very normal car (complete with a steering wheel), they headed towards the Strip, scanning every vehicle in sight.

All they saw were regular cars, and yes, all of them had steering wheels.
It took a while before they saw a couple of vehicles belong to Zoox, an Amazon-subsidiary.

However, to their disappointment, these turned out to be modified SUVs with safety drivers behind the wheel, which wasn’t exactly the futuristic pod they had imagined.
They had a more exciting ride than they were expecting
The duo didn’t give up, and after downloading the app and waiting it out, they finally spotted an actual Zoox robotaxi.
It looked nothing like a conventional car; passengers sat facing each other, and crucially, there was no steering wheel in sight.

When their ride finally arrived, the doors opened automatically, revealing a cabin that felt more like a concept car than public transportation.
The inside of their ride was very futuristic, but the experience ended up being quite nerve-wrecking.

With no driver, no controls, and no way to intervene, Carter and Matt were completely at the mercy of the machine.
The car handled traffic lights and merged into busy roads on its own, but it was far from flawless.
During their short ride, the car swerved multiple times and made more than one aggressive turn, making it clear that the tech was still a work in progress.

“This is definitely not a Tesla. Tesla driving is honestly really impressive, even though it’s technically not full self-driving,” Carter said.
Still, the verdict was clear: driverless cars with no steering wheel actually exist in the real world.

Although they might be far from perfect, these Robotaxis show that steering wheels may one day be optional.
