These guys took a chance on an insanely cheap $600 BMW with leaking gas and no title, but managed to turn it around.

Sometimes it’s worth taking a risk, even if it is on a ‘beat to hell’ BMW.

YouTube channel The Backspeed Boys did just that, with the goal of fixing their purchased car in under 24 hours.

Would they have set their sights too high with this task?

The $600 BMW gamble that could pay off or end in disaster

This BMW E34 535i came with a M5 body kit and a whole lot of red flags.

It had over 400,000 miles on the clock – admittedly less than this New York taxi – and no title.

Whilst we’re on the subject of things this car doesn’t have – bumpers.

What it did have was a ‘janky’ exhaust system.

This car wasn’t exactly screaming good investment, but we all love an underdog story, don’t we?

Even this car’s leaking gas issue wouldn’t deter us from rooting for it to get fixed.

The Backspeed Boys set about fixing this car in less than a day, which is a tall order.

But we guess they want it that way.

That’ll be the first and last Backstreet Boys reference, by the way.

Rome wasn’t built in a day, but could this car be fixed in one?

There was issues aplenty to be addressed with this car.

The wire connecting the car to the starter was in really bad shape.

One of the hosts remarked: “[This wire] was completely cooked, that’s really bad.”

Fortunately, installing a new wire fixed the issue.

The spark plugs also needed replacing, and a compression test yielded some reassuring results.

The cylinders were firing between 150 and 155 PSI, with one 157.

“Not too bad for an engine with a quarter of a million miles on it,” noted one of the hosts.

Troubleshooting gets the engine up and running, so it was decided to take the car for a test drive.

Although the hosts cautioned that it still needed work, they managed to reverse the car out of their garage and take it for a spin.

One of them exclaimed: “Holy s**t dude, we got a car for $600!”

It really was a ‘pinch me’ moment.

No one can quite believe it when they snag such a bargain, like this UK man who bought a Range Rover for less than $500.

The car was likened to driving a go-kart, even though there were still some kinks that needed working out – a gear stick that was barely holding itself together, for example.

Both of the hosts had high praise for the BMW and how it felt to drive it.

There was still work to be done, but they were off to a flying start.

If you want to see the $600 BMW get bought back to life, head over to The Backspeed Boys’ YouTube channel.
