This Tesla owner wanted to know what actually happens to the range of a Model Y if left to charge during the few minutes it takes to grab a Starbucks coffee.
So he pulled into a Supercharger and set a mental timer the moment he plugged in.
It was meant to be a simple, everyday test, the kind of stop anyone might make on the way to work.
And by the time he walked back across the car park with his coffee, the number on his screen made him stop in his tracks.

How much this Model Y charged in the time it took to get coffee
Daniel, the creator behind the MyTeslasUK YouTube channel, had heard the same line over and over: EVs are inconvenient unless you charge at home.
So he set out to test that idea using the most universal errand on earth – the coffee run.
He rolled into a Supercharger with 85 miles left on his Model Y, made note of the time – 11:07am – and plugged in.

Then he headed straight for Starbucks, the queue already three people deep – no rushing, no shortcuts.
However much the car gained before his name was called – that’s the number that really mattered.
And in the end, the results were something he never expected.
The tiny Starbucks window delivered a huge surprise
When Daniel got back to his Tesla at 11:20, the screen showed a number he wasn’t expecting.
His Model Y had jumped from 85 miles to 168 miles, meaning he’d added 83 miles in just 13 minutes.
“That’s bloody good, isn’t it,” he said, noting that would be enough range to cover his whole 40-mile work round-trip, plus whatever gym run or evening errand he needed to run.

He even said that if he’d grabbed toast or used the bathroom, the car probably would’ve pushed toward 200 miles.
All from a short stop on the way to work.
None of it was optimized, and that was the point – a short queue in a Starbucks on a random work morning delivered one of his biggest top-ups of the week.
And for him, that tiny window of supercharge time said more about everyday EV life than any spec sheet ever could.
For Daniel, it’s safe to say the ‘public EV charging is inconvenient’ myth is officially busted.
