An electric car underdog from Kia has just taken home the top prize at the 2025 New York International Motor Show.
The humble EV3 crossover emerged as the winner at the event, continuing a long run of success for Kia stretching back to 2020.
The South Korean manufacturer has scooped up World Car of the Year three times since then and several of its EVs have also been award winners.
Awarding the EV3 with the accolade shows us how much more respected electric cars have become.

The EV3 is a humble electric crossover
It won’t draw the eye like a Ford Mustang would, but the EV3 is still a superb EV.
The car’s chassis is derived from the Hyundai-Kia K3 platform, sold under the E-GMP architecture.
This is the same architecture used in the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6, as well as the Kia EV6.
The motor provides the EV3 with 150kW of power, and there is enough battery capacity for a range of 370 miles.

As with other Hyundai and Kia EVs, the EV3 will be affordable and is expected to start at around $35,000.
Despite its affordable price tag, it still comes packed with features.
These include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, heated front seats, and highway driving assist.
Of course, it isn’t the only Kia EV to have achieved great success.
Kia has produced other award-winning EVs
Aside from the EV3, two of the manufacturer’s other successful EVs are the EV9 and the EV6.
The EV9 is a mid-size SUV, introduced in 2023, and very striking looking thanks to its boxy proportions.

The company impressed many with the EV9, which won the World Car of the Year award in 2024.
On top of that, the company also makes the EV6, as well as the higher-performance EV6 GT.
That won the World Performance Car of the Year award in 2023, and it’s very easy to see why.
In GT trim, the EV6 can produce 576HP, and there’s up to 310 miles of range from the EV6 lineup.
The EV9 and EV6 mean the EV3’s award-winning success comes as no surprise to consumers and EV fans.
