Having made a significant dent in the SUV market with its new EV range in the 2020s, Hyundai is now set to enter the affordable electric hatchback market with the Ioniq 2.
The Ioniq range has become quite the game-changer for Hyundai in recent years, as the South Korean manufacturer has been looking to move on from its flagship Tucson.
In Europe alone, Hyundai has sold 265,680 units in the first half of 2025, matching that of its sibling Kia.
But new projects are coming thick and fast for the manufacturer, and it seems the Ioniq 2 is next up.

Hyundai reportedly set to announce new electric hatchback: Ioniq 2
Hyundai has been running its next release through the mill lately, pushing the Chinese SUV named Elexio to its limits with its new ‘God’s hand’ technology.
But it also seems that a new electric hatchback is nearing completion, as reports have claimed that the brand is set to announce the Ioniq 2 in Munich, Germany, next month.
The new EV is set to follow in the footsteps of the Kia EV2 in being a smaller version of the Ioniq 6, even mimicking its front-end style.

Set to cost around $32,000, the new details of the new electric hatchback are slim, but given that the sister EV2 boasts a single motor approach, it’s likely that we’ll see the same with the Ioniq 2.
The more, the merrier
This new electric hatchback isn’t the only project hailing from the gargantuan assembly line, though.
In fact, there’s an abundance of new activity coming from the South Korean manufacturer.
Staying on the sustainable ladder, the smallest EVs yet are coming from Hyundai with the new E3W and EW4.
And one rung higher on the eco-friendly climb is the hydrogen-powered Nexo SUV. Both are expected to arrive in late 2025.
Down the road, the company is also aiming to release a new high-performance EV with the Ioniq 6 N, which was revealed at Goodwood this year.

It’s set to be a big year for the manufacturer, as it continues to pile on the pressure in the EV market.
