Elon Musk has recently unveiled the new Tesla Robotaxi, Robovan, and showcased the Optimus humanoid robot at the company’s ‘We, Robot’ event.

However, after seeing the design of the vehicles, the director of the 2004 film I, Robot starring Will Smith had a few things to say.

As you might notice the name of the Tesla event is also very similar to the movie title.

It seems that’s not where the similarities end.

Did Tesla take inspiration from I, Robot designs?

According to the director, the new Tesla vehicles and the Optimus humanoid robot share the design from the futuristic film.

The 2004 sci-fi film — I, Robot is set in 2035 and shows a future where robots are everywhere.

Starring Will Smith, the movie’s main plot also involves a robot uprising, but let’s hope it doesn’t come to that.

After Elon Musk unveiled the Robotaxi, Robovan, and the updated Optimus robots, some social media users posted side-by-side comparisons of Tesla’s products and stills from the film.

The fact that the event and movie shared a similar name might have helped make the connection.

It does seem like the Tesla Robotaxi and Robovan have quite a similar design to the ones in the film.

However, the futuristic car driven by Will Smith in the film is inspired by Audi R8.

The director calls out Elon Musk

Even the director of the film, Alex Proyas took to X to call out Elon Musk for the similar design.

“Hey Elon, Can I have my designs back please?” he wrote posting another side-by-side comparison of the designs.

However, the side-by-side comparison also included the Optimus robot, which looked nothing alike.

Of course, it’s not clear if Proyas was seriously calling Musk out or if he was just joking.

Since he didn’t tag Elon directly, it seems it was just meant as a sarcastic joke.
