Most car rivalries get settled on a drag strip.
But when you’re dealing with two proper 4x4s, speed isn’t really the point.
Instead, it comes down to something far more primal.
Hook them together, hit the gas, and see who gets dragged.

Jeep Wrangler vs Volkswagen Touareg tug-of-war delivers a clear result
In a head-to-head battle that recently surfaced on online, a Jeep Wrangler lines up against a Volkswagen Touareg for a simple, brutally honest test.
The Wrangler arrives with its usual credentials.
Solid front and rear axles.
Proper 4×4 hardware.

A reputation built on climbing rocks and clawing through terrain that would stop most SUVs in their tracks.
Meanwhile, the Touareg plays a different game.
Under its hood sits a 5.0-liter V10 turbo diesel – an engine known for huge torque and serious pulling strength.
It’s less trail toy, more muscle in a tailored suit.
Strapped together and ready, both drivers apply throttle.
And for a brief moment it looks evenly matched.
But then the shift happens.
The Touareg begins to edge forward.

Slowly at first, then with confidence.
The Wrangler fights, but the diesel torque keeps building, and the Volkswagen steadily drags the Jeep backward.
There’s no sudden snap or dramatic spinout.
Just a calm, relentless pull.
In this setup, the Touareg’s torque advantage proves decisive.
On this day, brute diesel strength wins.

We’ve seen this kind of tug-of-war before
This isn’t the first time two rivals have been tied together to settle a debate.
Last year, a Tesla Cybertruck went head-to-head with a Ford F-150 in a similarly direct tug-of-war test (seen in the clip above).
That matchup pitched futuristic electric torque against one of America’s most trusted pickup nameplates.
In that run, the Cybertruck pulled the F-150 uphill and did it convincingly.

The electric truck maintained traction and dragged the Ford back despite the incline.
Just like the Wrangler versus Touareg battle, it proved something simple.
When you strip away lap times and launch control, tug-of-war tests come down to torque, traction, and setup.
And sometimes, that tells you more than a drag race ever could.
