In a world where technology is all the rage, this Jeff Bezos-backed Slate Auto EV pickup truck is refusing to jump two-footed into the modern era by holding onto its precious manual windows.
When looking to buy a car in this day and age, we’re being won over by flashy infotainment systems, flourishing Tesla software, and LED lights.
But one EV truck isn’t getting carried away with the electricity buzz.
Instead, its keeping manual windows – and no, this isn’t a wind-up. Well, technically, it is. Ah…

Slate Auto reveals its EV pickup will have manual windows
Jeff Bezos is usually a name that we associate with glitz and glamour when it comes to vehicles. After all, he does like to spend his billions on $500m superyachts.
So when rumors surfaced that he’d backed a Michigan-based start-up company to build a new car, it didn’t take long for people to begin expecting something cut from the Tesla cloth, just more extravagant.
That couldn’t be further from the truth, though. It turns out that he’s behind a new two-door EV pickup truck by Slate Auto.
While the truck is expected to still be quite a leap forward for these smaller trucks, it seems like the affordable price tag of $25k has seen some tech advancements be left behind.
Automatic windows for example.

It’s a truck that’s going back to the future
As the company revealed the Slate Auto EV pickup truck, it also revealed that the vehicle will be getting the biceps of its passengers flowing with a good old crank system.
“Approachable and timeless. Steel wheels outside. Crank windows and HVAC knobs inside,” reads the press relase.
So much for the robotic technology that Bezos has been investing in.

Considering the truck will be electric, it’s quite uncanny that the windows aren’t.
It will actually be the first new car in America to have crank windows in two years – it’ll launch in 2026 – when the Jeep Wrangler retired this feature it was the last car standing.
This all makes a lot of sense considering Bezos himself still drives a 1997 Honda Accord, despite being a billionaire and splashing out on space programs, private jets, and humanoids.
The jury is still out for Slate Auto, though.
Will it be a stroke of genius to have a two-door truck that combines two eras of manufacturing? Or will it be a confusing mess whose nostalgia battery will run down as quickly as its charge?
