This Kansas man took an abandoned cop car and turned it into the ‘world’s fastest’, giving it incredible horsepower.

Westen Champlin is no stranger to ambitious projects, and this undertaking was certainly a big one.

This car had been sitting in a field for a year, and a ‘garden’ had grown up inside the engine bay.

Could this cop car be returned to a good state or had it run its course?

Taking an abandoned cop car and making it the ‘world’s fastest’

Westen Champlin has taken on his fair share of cars in the past.

He has worked with a wrecked rally car, and a Dodge Hellcat, and even drove a mini truck up to the most northern point of Alaska.

There have been a bumps in the road along the way, speaking both literally and figuratively.

How would building the world’s fastest cop car compare?

The first job on the agenda was to clear out all the overgrown grass that had crept up inside the engine bay.

At least it wasn’t a tree – which we have seen before.

Champlin said: “Removing the garden growing in it would be a good start.”

The end goal was to have a twin-turbo HEMI cop car that would ‘absolutely rip.’

Having spent over a year in a field with no hood, things on the inside were about as as you’d expect.

Nothing in the fuse panel worked, so all the wires would need to be replaced.

How did the project turn out in the end?

A Blueprint 426 Gen 3 HEMI engine was installed, alongside Bullseye 72mm turbos.

The turbo kit was designed with the intention of producing 2,200hp.

Once the car is started up, it certainly sounded the part and made an almighty roar.

When put to the dynamometer, it clocked in at 850hp.

After taking drivetrain correction in account, this works out at about 1,000hp.

One customary Champlin burnout later, he took the car off to his buddy, who was going to be the owner.

On the drive over, he declared that this may be his new favorite car.
