The Lancia Pu+Ra HPE concept is a futuristic vision with throwback features

From its rocket headlights and T-shaped hood panel to the wraparound lines at the rear, the Lancia Pu+Ra HPE is a nod to the automaker's iconic past models.

Say hello to the Lancia Pu+Ra HPE, a brand new concept from the Italian automaker.

You might recognise the name, as Lancia won multiple world championships between the ’70s and ’90s in its rally-racing heyday.

The brand is back with a bang, so Supercar Blondie’s Alex Hirschi flew into Milan to check out the futuristic concept car.

The first thing you’ll notice about the Lancia Pu+Ra HPE is the stylistic influence of several of its iconic past models.

Starting at the front, it’s easy to spot the rocket-shaped headlights, a nod to the Fulvia Zagato.

That car had hexagonal-shaped headlights, too.

Floating above the hood of the Lancia Pu+Ra HPE is a panel that incorporates daytime running lights.

They run both horizontally and vertically to form a ‘T’ shape, which is another iconic Lancia design feature.

Another feature, not seen anywhere else in the automotive world, is the circular shape on the roof that actually opens up as a sunroof.

Moving to the back of the Lancia Pu+Ra HPE, there’s these horizontal lines that wrap around the rear window.

Once again, these are another stylistic feature pulled from one of the automaker’s iconic models – the Lancia Beta HPE.

Perhaps one of the coolest features of this concept car is its clear side cameras, which do something funky when you open the doors.

You have to press a sensor to open the door and when you do, the side camera goes from being horizontal to vertical, lifting as the door opens.

The Lancia Pu+Ra HPE is equally as cool as it is on the outside when you step in.

That being said, its cabin has been designed to provide a “warm and welcoming” contrast to the clear-cut, more aggressive exterior.

It’s got deep, velvet seats that provide armchair levels of comfort, as well as small round tables in the front and back.

Then there’s that unique circular glass roof, which swivels open to provide an innovative new take on the classic targa top.

The finishing touch to the interior are a set of bright lights that wrap around from the front all the way round to the back.

Using the concept car’s innovative S.A.L.A. system, you can control the color of these lights, as well as a multitude of other things like sound and climate control.

Super smooth and super fast, Supercar Blondie had a whale of a time driving the Lancia Pu+Ra HPE concept.
