A billionaire who is worth $240,000,000,000 received a speeding ticket while driving his C8 Corvette on his own island after being pulled over by police in Hawaii.

The billionaire behind the wheel was Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison, one of the richest men on the planet.

The stop happened on Lanai, the island where Ellison owns almost all the land; he owns 98 percent of the whole island.

Despite his wealth and influence, the traffic stop played out like any other; it shows that no amount of money can get you out of a speeding ticket.

Larry Ellison got a speeding ticket on his own island

The incident took place in October 2022 on the Hawaiian island of Lanai, which billionaire and celebrity Larry Ellison owns nearly 98 percent of.

Police body camera footage later showed an officer pulling the tech billionaire over for speeding and failing to come to a complete stop at a stop sign.

During the interaction, Ellison appeared calm and cooperative – he acknowledged the mistake and told the officer there was no excuse for his driving.

He also explained that he was trying to get home for dinner with his kids, but did not attempt to use his status or ownership of the island to avoid consequences.

The situation became slightly more awkward when it emerged that Ellison did not have his driver’s license on him at the time of the stop.

Even so, the officer treated him like any other motorist, issuing a citation and sending him on his way.

The moment quickly went viral after being reported by US media, largely because of the surreal nature of watching a man worth hundreds of billions being told off for basic road rules on land he effectively owns.

He was driving a relatively affordable C8 Corvette

What made the story even more entertaining was the car involved; instead of a rare hypercar or bespoke luxury vehicle, Ellison was driving a bright orange Chevrolet C8 Corvette convertible.

The All-American sports car is fast, flashy, and relatively affordable by billionaire standards, which only added to the internet’s fascination.

Seeing one of the world’s richest people cruising in a muscle car rather than a multimillion-dollar supercar felt oddly relatable.

The footage offered a rare glimpse into a very normal slice of billionaire life – he had no private security, no special treatment, just a traffic stop, a quick apology, and a ticket.

In the end, it was a reminder that no matter how much money you have or whether you’re driving on your own island, road laws still apply when you are behind the wheel.
