This life-sized, fully drivable Bugatti Chiron was created out of more than 1,000,000 LEGO Technic pieces and really needs to be seen to be believed.

As far as noteworthy and iconic supercars go, it doesn’t get much better than the Bugatti Chiron.

Which must be why LEGO decided to create its very own tribute to the Chiron, made entirely from bricks.

The 1:1 creation took thousands of hours to create, and the finished build is truly awe-inspiring.

The LEGO Bugatti Chiron actually drives

LEGO makes a bunch of cool car kits for both kids and adults, like this Chevrolet Corvette Stingray model, or this Lightning McQueen set that was released to mark 20 years of the movie Cars

However, back in 2018, the Danish toymaker went one step further by building a life-sized, fully functioning Bugatti Chiron entirely from LEGO Technic pieces.

The ambitious project involved months of planning with project manager Lukáš Horák admitting the team had ‘never done anything like that before’.

The team of 16 poured a whopping 13,000 work hours and more than a LEGO Technic elements into the project, and made sure they covered each and every detail of the Chiron.

“No detail was too small to be omitted,” Design Manager Lubor Zelinka said

“Going from the lights along the surfaces, to the interior, to the round disc brakes… everything is as close to the real car as possible. Because we Build for Real.”

In the case of the Bugatti Chiron, this meant that the car also had to be drivable

To power the car, the team used a total of 2,304 teeny-tiny Power Functions L-Motors.

And, believe it or not, the plan worked – as you can see in the clip at the top of the story.

The Chiron was taken for a test drive at the Bugatti test track in Germany with official Bugatti test driver Andy Wallace behind the wheel.

As you might have guessed, its performance didn’t quite match that of the real deal, with the car managing a top speed of 12.5mph (20km/h) – although driver Andy said ‘it felt a lot faster’.

It’s not the only life-sized drivable car LEGO has made

The Bugatti Chiron may have been the first 1:1 drivable LEGO build, but it wasn’t the last.

In September 2024, the toymaker unveiled a full-sized McLaren P1 built from 342,817 pieces.

The McLaren P1 was then put through its paces at Silverstone by professional driver Lando Norris.
