This ‘silver’ special edition 46-year-old Chevrolet Corvette was an icon of its age, but after appearing for the first time in two decades, it shrugged off its two-tone grey and served up a lime dressing that wasn’t on the menu.

The 1978 Chevrolet Corvette was given an incredibly popular Silver Anniversary makeover to celebrate what was then 25 years of the American brand.

And, as you could have guessed, the limited edition cars were given a two-tone silver coat of arms.

Despite being an extra $400 then – roughly $2,000 now – for the silver look, this knighted Corvette went absolutely rogue. And after 20 years off the grid, it’s come back green with envy.

This 46-year-old Chevrolet Corvette has snubbed its famous Silver Anniversary look for… lime green

Given the popularity of the Chevrolet Corvette, it comes as no surprise that a handful of the older generation cars have never been given up.

Arguably more often than other cars, the iconic series is found in barns and yards, with the owners unwilling to let go of their old dream cars.

The Silver Anniversary model is no different, having been found abandoned on a number of occasions and later rescued in a bid to keep its legacy alive.

However, none have been quite as outlandish and rogue as this one…

Found by Vice Grip Garage, this Chevrolet Corvette was grounded for roughly 20 years. But its biggest surprise was its lime green appearance.

Of course, the lime green coat is completely counter-productive to its limited-edition tag. Gone is its signature silver look in favor of something that’s much more recognizable as a Dodge or Plymouth.

But can it be saved?

Given its 20-year hiatus, the garage assumed the worst for this car. It was fully expected that the ‘vette might need a hefty amount of work.

But upon inspection, it seemed that this weird and wonderful car was in pretty good condition. In fact, it had actually been rebuilt not long before it was cast aside.

The original V8 engine roared into life. And with some fresh tires, it was ready to be driven almost straight away.

The garage representative even managed to drive it 750 miles home, albeit with a few hiccups.

While it’s nothing on the brand-new Corvette ZR1X range, this flamboyant beauty – depending on your color tastes – could be quite the fun ride.
