The Lotus Evija EV, a British-manufactured four-wheel drive demon with 2013hp, has just been recorded smashing from 0-200mph in a record 13 seconds flat.

The fastest (proven) car on the planet is the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport, hitting as top speed of over 300mph in a record-breaking sprint.

But, while its top speed makes it the cheetah in the supercar jungle, there’s a handful of cars than accelerate quicker.

Namely, the Lotus Evija EV.

Lotus Evija EV sets wild 0-200mph record

Once the most powerful cars in the world, the Lotus Evija EV has four motors, one for each wheel, which power over 500hp each, combining for just over 2010hp.

And harnessing everything that is brilliant with electric acceleration, the EV supercar has now smashed the Bugatti in a 0-200mph acceleration test.

As proven by Autocar, the Lotus Evija EV ripped from a standing start to 200mph in 13 seconds, finding its best acceleration rates over 100mph.

To put this into a table of sorts, the 13-second record beats the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport by a clear three seconds. It’s also a second and a half faster than the Koenigsegg Agera, which is the next-best recorded time at 14.3.

The Lotus is no slouch around the track too, holding a very specific record at the Nürburgring.

Is the Lotus Evija the fastest accelerating car in the world?

To be proven as the fastest car in the world, there are multiple measurements to consider.

Many measure acceleration with the 0-60mph metric, in which case the Lotus Evija sets an extremely quick 2.8 seconds.

To put that into perspective, its not all that impressive for a car claiming to be the fastest out there, as the McMurty Speriling shaves that time in half with a 1.38 second 0-60mph record, closely followed by the Aspark Owl, Rimac Nevera, and Lucid Air Sapphire in the sub-two-seconds club.

So on that front, the Lotus is slower than some cars in short stints, but it just proves that it doesn’t slow down at 60mph, and only really hits its stride passing 100mph.

There is a claimant to the throne that the Lotus Evija EV dons though, as the Hennessey Venom F5 Evolution, with its 2,031hp, has claimed to do 0-200mph in 10.3 seconds during testing.

Its ‘most powerful car in the world’ trope has since been surpassed since its 2024 release too, with the Rimac Nevera R putting up an extra 100hp, and the soon-to-be-released Koenigsegg Gemera claiming 2,300hp.

But lets not take away anything from this extraordinary feat, as the Lotus Evija EV is a serious high-speed monster that has found a sweet spot in the market.
