  • The Tesla Plaid has become the king of the race track
  • But can it hold its own against another EV with an extra 100hp?
  • Well, one car demolished the other. Any guesses which?

The Tesla Plaid has quickly become the king of the quarter mile, but can it hold its own in an EV drag race against the most powerful production sedan in the world: the Lucid Air Dream?

Tesla’s Model S has blown EV stereotypes out of the water by proving that an electric motor can rival its gas counterparts.

It’s even beaten some of the fastest Lamborghini and McLaren cars in drag races.

Now though, it faces off against another electric beast, the 1,111hp Lucid Air Dream wants a slice of the action.

Of course, the Tesla Plaid isn’t undefeated on the track. It isn’t the outright fastest vehicle on the road. The Suzuki Hayabusa saw to that.

As did the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT.

But, it’s still rapid, being inseparable against $4 million hypercars, and has become a benchmark for all racecars to be measured against.

YouTube account DragTimes has now set the Model S up against the Lucid Air Performance Dream Edition in a heavyweight title fight.

The Lucid Air comes with 1,111hp, twin motors, all-wheel drive and weighs in at 5,236 pounds.

Over in the red corner, the Plaid boasts an impressive 1,020hp of its own with three motors and a lighter kit of 4,833 pounds.

The cars would go up against each other in four heats, and, well, the drag race result is a demolition job.

The Race

The conditions weren’t perfect for racing, by any means, with 40mph winds blowing a gale on the Texas strip with a bitter cold sting.

Both cars were run without warming up, given that the Plaid has a Boost mode to warm the motor up quickly, unlike the Lucid, making for an even playing ground.

Heading into race one, the field might have been even, but it was the Tesla who didn’t take any liberties and absolutely wiped the floor with the Lucid Air.

The racers disabled the Tesla’s launch mode off for heat two, which only made it half a second slower overall, but was enough to give the Lucid a chance at crossing the line first. 1-1.

But in a repeat of race one, the third round saw the Tesla use the launch again and fire off into the distance, leaving the Lucid Air sucking on dirty air.

Finally, a rolling start race was added to the mix and the Tesla Plaid, again, shot off to victory.

So, it seems that the Plaid is the undefeated king of the EV world, despite the Lucid Air’s extra horsepower.

What is mindblowing about the Lucid Air is that it’s used as a police vehicle in Saudi Arabia. Now, all you need is a Tesla Plaid to outrun those officers.
