Buying a luxury SUV doesn’t mean you need to compromise on performance

At their core, these two SUVs are essentially the same basic vehicle.

Both are vehicles that tower over a Range Rover when it comes to size.

Both share the same underlying architecture, engines, drivetrain options and suspension, being built on General Motors’ full-size SUV platform.

With nearly 145 cubic feet of maximum cargo volume, these are among the most spacious SUVs on the road.

Even with the third row upright, both offer 41.5 cubic feet of cargo space, enough for large suitcases, strollers, or a serious Costco run.

With the seats down, you get an almost mind-blowing amount of space.

Under the hood, both SUVs are powered by GM’s proven 6.2-liter V8, producing 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque, paired to a smooth 10-speed automatic transmission.

Despite their massive size, performance has not taken a back seat: the Escalade ESV can sprint from 0–60 mph in about 5.9 seconds, while the Yukon XL Denali is right in the same ballpark.

Optional four-wheel drive adds confidence for towing or winter driving, and both models can tow up to 8,100 pounds when properly equipped.

And even though a luxury SUV isn’t most people’s first choice for an off-road adventure, it does surprisingly well.

Inside, the luxury credentials are undeniable.

The Escalade ESV features Cadillac’s massive 38-inch curved OLED display, AKG Studio audio with up to 36 speakers, and available Super Cruise hands-free driving assistance.

The Yukon XL Denali leans slightly more understated, but counters with gorgeous wood trims, premium leather, and the ultra-luxurious Denali Ultimate package.

Ride quality is also impressive thanks to available Magnetic Ride Control and air suspension, which help shrink the sensation of driving something this enormous.

Both luxury SUVs don’t come cheap

The Yukon XL Denali starts at around $86,000, while the Escalade ESV will cost you closer to $96,000 before options.

If the stock model isn’t enough, Cadillac even offers the Escalade-V ESV, packing a 682-horsepower supercharged V8, giving you supercar-level power.

Now, these luxury SUVs certainly won’t be winning any awards for fuel economy.

However, if having unmatched cargo space wrapped in luxury is the goal, nothing else on today’s market comes close.
