When a man said he could land an airplane, a pilot gave him the controls to put him to the test – but there was a twist.

Pilot Pete is a TikToker who challenges people to land a plane for his series My Layover Life.

One guy named Paul seemed up for the challenge and headed up into the sky to take it on.

He took to it like a duck to water, but there was a twist.

This man was asked if he could land an airplane, but there was a twist

When Pilot Pete approached a man on the street and asked if he could land an airplane, he probably wasn’t expecting much.

After all, how many Average Joes are capable of such feats?

A very slim minority.

At any rate, the man in question – Paul – seemed up for the challenge and went along with Pete on the plane.

“I’m going to give it my best shot,” Paul said modestly, taking his seat in the plane’s pilot seat.

Take-off went well, but Pete wasn’t interested in seeing someone do that.

“You can take off an airplane, but I have to admit – a monkey could take off an airplane,” Pete said.

“I won’t even tell you where the airport is. It’ll be your job to figure all that out and get us on the ground safely.”

When Paul dropped some air terminology – mentioning ‘flaps’ – Pete wanted to know where he’d learnt that lingo.

“I’ve watched a lot of movies, I’m like Denzel [Washington],” Paul commented.

That seems like a legit explanation, right?

Turns out, Paul was able to land the plane masterfully, even though he admitted it was ‘scary’.

This made him the only person Pete had taken up into the air who had successfully landed the plane.

But there was a twist.

“I’m actually a 757 captain for United Airlines,” Paul admitted.

This admission was apparently a ‘Take off sunglasses in disbelief’ level revelation for Pete, as he did exactly that.

Let’s just say, we’re all collectively taking off our sunglasses in shock.

Landing a plane – no easy feat at all

We’ve seen enough of cockpit POVs over the years to know that landing planes is no picnic.

One video showed a Boeing 737 landing at the world’s most difficult airport, for which there aren’t enough sunglasses in the world to remove.

Another 737 had to make a landing in near-zero visibility.

But they’re not all nailbiters – these pilots of an A330 made their gusty landing look like a breeze.
