The man who bought a Mansory Veyron supercar for over $1 million is finding out the hard way that it has an issue that Bugatti can’t repair for him.
YouTuber Mark McCann has an impressive car collection, and one of those is a striking Bugatti Veyron that was enhanced by Mansory.
The German tuners are known for their outrageous designs, and this car was no exception.
While it fulfilled a dream for McCann, who always wanted a Veyron, a recent video has shown that the dream quickly turned into a nightmare.

Why buying this Veyron was a huge risk
McCann actually took a huge risk buying this Mansory Veyron.
Not just because of the cost, but because of the overall condition of the Bugatti.
McCann said the car had been in bits and moved from various garages for over three years.
That led to fears of missing parts and whether the Veyron would even start.
Replacement parts would have been tens of thousands of dollars.
In fact, the whole gearbox was missing, which hugely impacted the overall cost of the Bugatti.

Speaking to friends, McCann learned even more about the car, such as it wouldn’t go into reverse gear for five years.
But the biggest disappointment came after a problem was found with the car’s gearbox.
As it transpired, the gearbox in the Veyron was broken and needed a major repair.

This is why Bugatti couldn’t repair the Mansory Veyron
Not only did the car not go into reverse, but McCann soon learned that the car had suffered galvanic corrosion.
In short, this is when two materials corrode together, in a weird chemical reaction.
Steel and aluminum had corroded in the Veyron’s gearbox.
The drilling of a bolt had left residue material in the gearbox, leading to corrosion.
McCann, after lots of back and forth, finally got an answer as to the price of a gearbox.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t good news.
A Bugatti dealership explained that, as the gearboxes come as a sealed unit, they could not repair them.
It wasn’t that they refused to repair it; it was that they simply could not do so.
All they can do is provide outright replacements.
Plus, there is even a price difference of at least $130,000 between different gearboxes.
Towards the end of the video, McCann had the gearbox looked at by a specialist in Holland.

They found a lot of swarf (small bits of metal) that was blocking hydraulic channels, with a lot of wear on the clutch plate.
With this, a repair for the Veyron could cost $27,000 versus perhaps $300,000 for a brand new gearbox.
But this will only be proven when the gearbox is back in the UK and tested in the car at a later date.
