This British YouTuber bought a Honda Civic for $387 to teach his kids to drive and – despite the incredibly low price – he was shocked at how impressed he was by it.
He wondered if there were any truly cheap post-pandemic cars to buy anymore because his kids were at an age where they needed an old car to practice driving in.
He managed to find a 20-year-old Honda Civic for sale on Gumtree for $387 and took a risk buying it completely sight unseen.
When he managed to get behind the wheel and set his eyes on it he was shocked at the condition it was in and realized it could be so much more than just a driving practice car.

This $387 Honda Civic is for teaching the kids to drive
When you turn 17 in the UK, you’re legally allowed to take your driving test and learn to drive.
But, automotive YouTuber Jonny Smith decided it was better to buy a cheap old used car for his kids to learn to drive in rather than risking one of his nice cars.
The YouTuber, who is part of the Late Brake Show, was convinced that there are no cars available online for less than $500 as the price of everything has gone up since the pandemic.
he was pleased to have been proved wrong when he found a 20-year-old Honda Civic for just $387 that he decided to take a risk on and buy completely sight unseen.
What he was presented with blew his mind and he realized he may have been underestimating the car’s potential.
Turns out it was so much more than a learning car
When Jonny arrived to pick up the car, he was astounded to find it in a really good condition, with a nearly full service history and a recently replaced clutch.
It came with minimal wear, two keys and a recent battery replacement, despite a couple of dents, the car was genuinely structurally sound.
Jonny considered that his used Honda Civic might actually be in too good a condition to risk his kids learning to drive in it and he was actually considering fixing it and reselling it.
Jonny used the video as a learning experience to make sure that people knew how to get the best out of the (increasingly expensive) used car market and how to ask good questions.
Turns out this gem was a real bargain and you can tell he’s impressed by the state of the car.
