Man thought he'd got a bargain when he bought the world's cheapest G-Wagen until an absolutely wild sequence of events ended up 'ruining his life'

This guy bought the cheapest G-Wagen he could find, and he found out right away why this vehicle was so cheap.

But that initial problem was soon compounded by an unprofessional mechanic.

And so, months and thousands of dollars later, he’s still G-Wagen-less.

Fortunately, there seems to be some light at the end of the tunnel.

The G-Wagen is one of those vehicles that are never cheap

Unlike several Bentleys and older Range Rover models, the G-Wagen doesn’t really depreciate.

Sitting halfway between a luxury SUV and a rugged off-roader, the vehicle has remained largely the same – visually and, in part, mechanically – since its launch in 1979

You can’t really buy a ‘cheap’ one, and if you do manage to find one with a low sticker price, it certainly won’t be cheap to run.

Most Mercedes vehicles aren’t cheap to maintain, and this YouTuber found out the hard way when he bought the cheapest G-Wagen in the country.

Because there was a reason why it was so cheap.

Here’s what happened with this SUV

TJ – the guy behind the MagnaCars YouTube channel – told VinWiki what happened when he bought the cheapest G-Wagen he could find.

After negotiating for years, he managed to buy one for just $12,500, which is a very low price for a G-Wagen.

Things went wrong immediately.

Among other things, he discovered the engine was damaged beyond repair, which was the first problem, followed by the second problem, which became evident when Mercedes told him he’d have to fork out $38,000 to fix the car.

The third problem was apparently the mechanic’s fault, as TJ struggled for months to retrieve his vehicle from the shop.

After months and months of not having a G-Wagen, TJ finally retrieved the car, which at this point was just an expensive paperweight.

He also managed to find a replacement engine.

But the situation was still dire.

It took him forever to recover the vehicle, and then he found out that the mechanic had apparently lied about it.

“A friend sent me a video of an account with, like, 20 followers, and it’s a video of my G-Wagen driving down the highway my license plate on it by a dude – I don’t even know who that guy was. He’s not the mechanic,” he said.

“Something fishy is going on here. My vehicle’s stolen,” he added.

“I’m like, what on Earth is going on. I think this mechanic is trying to pre-sell it to this guy. This is insane.”

But after spending so much time, energy, and money for basically not much in return, he said in the video he was not exactly keen to get started.

The video was posted on the channel just days ago so, even though there are videos about the G-Wagen on MagnaCars’ YouTube channel dating back months.

For now, the G-Wagen is apparently still grounded, and based on what he told VinWiki, the situation is unlikely to change.

“I spent my life savings on it. literally had to scrape together my last couple hundred dollars. The vehicle was great… for two weeks. [Now] I just don’t want it in my life anymore,” he concluded.
