This man broke his own ‘number one rule’ to get his hands on a low-mileage 1983 DMC DeLorean, and was left questioning if he’d made a huge mistake.
Designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro, the DMC DeLorean is an absolute icon.
The head-turning vehicle was in production between 1981 and 1983, and with only around 9,000 units ever made, they’re a pretty rare find.
So, when the chance came for car enthusiast and YouTuber Auto Locker to buy one, he broke his number one rule to make it happen.

Rules are made to be broken, especially when it comes to getting your hands on a DMC DeLorean
It’s not every day you see a DMC DeLorean up for sale, and this particular model was rarer than most as it was a Canadian-spec and had just 5,000 miles on the clock.
The rare DeLorean was placed up for sale by a ‘trusted’ seller, and it seemed it was too good an opportunity for Auto Locker to pass up – even if it did make him break his ‘number one rule’.
The YouTuber explained that when he came to buying cars, he stuck to one golden rule: don’t buy anything he hasn’t seen in person.

However, he snapped up the DeLorean and then had a bit of a tense wait to see if his gamble had paid off.
The car arrived ‘four days late,’ but that wasn’t the only hiccup he faced.
After unloading it from the trailer, he discovered that the battery was dead and the radiator was leaking.

It also had some issues getting into reverse, with the YouTuber suspecting that the shipper was unaware of the DeLorean’s reverse procedure and may have forced it, bending a roll pin.
Despite a handful of minor issues, Auto Locker was initially impressed by the condition of the car.
Taking a walk around the car, he noted how original the car was and that the wheels and rims were in tip-top condition.

The DeLorean had held onto its original steering wheel, shifter, switches, and carpet, all of which were clean and looked as good as new.
“Honestly, it’s like a brand-new car,” he said.
But then disaster struck
Shortly after the walkaround, the YouTuber revealed that the DeLorean had failed to start.
With the car unable to move, he arranged a trailer and sent the vehicle off to DMC California for an inspection.
Upon arrival, the DeLorean was found to have several problems.
Alongside the leaky radiator, the vintage vehicle was also found to have a bad battery, a non-operational fuel gauge, a spongy brake pedal, and a problem with the passenger door latch.

Still, the YouTuber didn’t seem to be too put out by the news, and said that it ‘could be worse’.
And with an attitude like that, we’re sure the DeLorean will get the repairs it needs and will be back on the road in no time.
