The owner of this $72,000 Volkswagen electric van – known as the Volkswagen ID. Buzz – drove it just shy of 400 miles before selling it for much less than he paid.
The Volkswagen ID. Buzz is the first production electric minivan from VW.
It was initially unveiled as a concept back in 2017, before finally going into production in 2023.
However, it seems as though one US owner wasn’t particularly won over by the Volkswagen electric van and sold it after putting just 398 miles on the clock – and for a lot less than the original price.

The Volkswagen electric van had hardly been used
The Volkswagen electric van was a long time coming.
It was unveiled at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show back in 2017, but it would be years before the Volkswagen ID. Buzz was finally available to buy.

The EV comes with a price tag of around $72,000, and one guy was more than happy to cash in his Tesla Cybertruck to get his hands on one.
However, it seems not everyone is equally as enamored.
The owner of this 1st Edition 4Motion Volkswagen ID.Buzz in Wyoming decided to put it up for sale with just 398 miles on the clock.
The car had been acquired by the seller in February this year.
It’s finished in Mahi Green with Candy White upper body panels and has Dune leatherette upholstery inside.
Up top, there’s a cool electrochromatic glass roof, and it also comes with LED lighting and heated and ventilated front power seats.
It’s powered by dual electric motors and a 91kWh battery.
As you might expect, due to that super low mileage, the Volkswagen electric van was in tip-top condition and looked as though it had just rolled off the production line.

When new, the EV cost $72,385, but just a few months – and less than 400 miles on – it recently sold for just $61,500, meaning almost $11,000 was wiped off its value.
Ouch.
Do EVs depreciate faster than gas-powered cars
The Volkswagen electric van isn’t the only EV to see a steep drop in price over a relatively short period of time.
In the UK, a YouTuber was left flabbergasted after taking his $70,000 Tesla Model Y to WeBuyAnyCar and being given a quote for just $36,800.
There was also a man who bought a brand-new Ford Mustang Mach-E for $72,590 but was told it was worth just $31,000 two years later.
So, do EVs depreciate faster than ICE vehicles?
The answer is ‘in most cases, yes’.
One study found that used EVs can depreciate around 10 times faster than gas-powered ones.
