This man drove a Lucid Air 72,000 miles and managed to pay no maintenance costs, but he also claims that his Chevrolet Corvette C8 would’ve cost $4,850 to cover the same distance.

The news comes after a recent shift in drivers opting for EVs over gas-powered vehicles.

Now, after racking up 72,000 miles, this guy has revealed the costs of his Lucid EV are impressively low.

But, after calculating how much the same amount of miles would have cost in his Corvette C8, he was left shocked.

This man drove 72,000 miles in a Lucid Air for nothing but said his Corvette C8 would have cost thousands

When it comes to EVs, Lucid is ahead of the curve with its car named ‘Air’.

The Lucid Air has an estimated range of 512 miles and even has a glass cockpit and pilot panel.

Now, one driver has praised the EV for costing him nothing in maintenance. He even claimed that he could have spent $4,850 on his Corvette C8 covering the same distance.

The driver shared a detailed post on Facebook, in the Lucid Group (Cars, Energy Storage, Technology Applications), explaining his maintenance situation.

“I have 72,000 miles on my Lucid, maintenance cost zero.

“I put new tires on it at 70,000 miles. I only have 40,000 miles on my 2020 C-8, but for purposes of comparison, let’s calculate the maintenance costs for driving it 70,000 miles,” explained Wayne Schell.

Schell added that he would need seven oil changes costing $1,050 and transmission maintenance, which would come to $2,200.

Plus, he also replaced the tires at 35,000 miles. He estimated that one extra set for his Corvette C8 would cost $1,600.

“So my maintenance costs for 70,000 miles on my Corvette is $4,850.00 more than my Lucid. Then, when I add the additional cost for 70,000 miles of premium fuel, the advantages of an EV Lucid is substantial,” he explained.

Now, it’s important to note that the Lucid Air would also need charging. But the owner explained there was ‘no appreciable time lost.’

So, when you break it down, the driver says that switching to an EV from a gas-powered car paid off.

But not everyone online agreed with the owner, and reactions were a mixed bag.

“For me, home electricity is cheaper than gas, but travel costs more and takes longer (slow fast-charging on the Bolt), so I could see somebody who does a lot of driving not finding it as compelling,” said one driver.

“Impressive overall, but if you’re saving money on tires in a 5000lbs sports seran vs a Corvette, that comes down to how you drive and if you’re getting performance or efficiency oriented rubber,” another added.

The Corvette C8 is still an impressive car

When it comes to sports cars, Chevrolet knows how to perform.

In fact, its new Corvette Stingray has an ‘all-new 482 HP 6.2L V8 engine’ that propels the car into the fast lane and to the top of gearheads’ wishlists.

And, it’s clear to see that other gearheads agree too.

In fact, our very own Alex Hirschi, AKA Supercar Blondie got to drive the new Chevrolet Corvette C8 and was left seriously impressed by one unexpected feature, which you can watch at the top of the story.

Plus, we can’t forget the time that some American guys pulled off the ultimate transformation by turning a C8 into the world’s fastest food truck.
