A man has been praised for how he calmly explained in a video that Lidar and vision are a must-have for self-driving cars, while a self-driving EV drove itself.
The video was posted on YouTube by Out of Spec Reviews. They discussed the Huawei Qiankun ADS 3.2 software inside the Avatr 11 EV.
A short four-minute segment video sees the presenter talk through the systems and how good it is on the busy roads of China.
Self-driving modes have been controversial for some time, but this potentially shows that they do have a future on some cars.

What was said about Lidar and vision for self-driving cars?
The YouTuber has compared the system to the one Tesla EVs use, which doesn’t have Lidar but relies on cameras only.
That is cheaper, but it is less effective at monitoring other cars around you and any potential obstacles that may exist.
This YouTuber, however, said that the system in the Avatr 11 is the best self-driving system he has experienced in any car so far.

The combination of vision plus Lidar is one massive advantage for the car and its ADS 3.2 software.
A factor in their using Lidar is the price.
The expert in the video states it can cost as little as $200 for the Lidar hardware in 2025.
Lidar has several advantages over cameras
Lidar also possesses several advantages over regular cameras, or just vision on its own.
It can see at least 150 meters away, making its vision + a bit extra.
Lidar scans around the car via lasers.
So it can pick up a lot of things around it.
Be it pedestrians at the roadside or other cars on the road.
It can even look at those that are parked around.
Watch this guy calmly explain why lidar+vision just makes sense

What you can also see in the video is how the expert is so comfortable in letting the Avatr do its own thing.
The car perfectly responds to all of the traffic situations thrown at it.
It looks as if an ordinary human being is driving the car.
Having used it for two years, it is clear he is happy to let the car get on with it.
