If you thought you’d seen it all in the EV world, one man has been testing the unusual $12,000 electric car the size of a golf cart that will very soon be making its way to America, thanks to Fiat.
Electric vehicles now come in all shapes and sizes, from the giant GMC Hummer EV all the way to cars like the new Renault 5 EV.
Yet now, Fiat is bringing something to the table, based on something already made by Stellantis’ sibling Citroen, that may become the smallest electric car in America.
It uses the Citroen Ami as its basis, and it’s a stripped-down, back-to-basics EV designed for inner-city use.

How Fiat created a new electric car the size of a golf cart
The car in question is the Fiat Topolino, although it is just a rebadged version of the Citroen Ami.
Fiat created it by rebranding the Ami and giving it a slightly revised design to look more ‘Italian.’
Now it looks like a Fiat 500 that’s been sent through the washing machine.
Like the Ami, it is incredibly bare-bones, with just two seats and a stripped-down interior.
Micah Toll tested the car for Electrek and found out just how basic the car actually is.
The idea behind it, like the Ami, is to have a basic car that gets people around town and can park in tight spots.

To that end, don’t expect the Ami to fly along at supercar speeds.
In fact, the top speed of the Ami and Topolino is just 28mph.

Why the Topolino is perfect for driving around towns and cities
Because of its small size, the Topolino is perfect for driving around towns and cities.
It would not look out of place parked up in a quaint Italian town.
Inside, it’s surprisingly spacious for such a small vehicle, and inspiration was taken from the Italian Riviera.
Under the hood is a small, 6kW electric motor that drives the front wheels.
Range is limited to just 47 miles, but that’s likely perfect for running around town.
Plus, you won’t want to drive around faster than 30mph in a town anyway.
As its range is short, it takes just four hours to fully recharge the Topolino.

It might not appeal to every American, but this golf cart-sized EV does have its own charm and appeal.
And with a roof over its head, it beats getting caught in the rain on a bicycle, scooter, or motorcycle.
The Fiat Topolino is expected to cost around $11,000 when it arrives in the United States.
