This man was left ‘mind blown’ after trying out Super e-Platform: the BYD five-minute EV charger that is twice as powerful as Tesla Superchargers.
The demand for EVs is growing, particularly in China, where almost half of all new cars bought last year were electric.
So to keep up with more EVs on the roads, we’re seeing rapid roll outs of charging stations.
In the US, Tesla’s Superchargers dominate, but in China BYD has introduced a game-changing super fast charger.

Just how fast is the BYD five-minute EV charger?
BYD announced its next-generation Super e-Platform earlier this year.
It offers 1,000kW peak charging speeds, which is double Tesla’s 500kW Superchargers.

This means an EV can gain around 250 miles (400km) of range in just five minutes of charging.
That’s 1.2 miles (2km) per second of charge and about as fast as filling up a gas tank.
“In order to completely solve our users’ charging anxiety, we have been pursuing a goal to make the charging time of electric vehicles as short as the refueling time of petrol vehicles,” BYD founder Wang Chuanfu said.
The BYD five-minute EV charger is compatible with its Han L and Tang L models, but neither the cars nor the charging technology is currently available outside of China.
So, YouTuber and car enthusiast Eduardo Arcos headed out to Shenzhen, China, to try it out for himself and was left completely blown away.
“The truth is, seeing it in person changes your perspective completely,” he said on YouTube.
After connecting to the charger, it immediately began charging at 1,000kW.
Then once the battery was charged to around 30-40 percent, it dropped to 700kW, which is still faster than the fastest US chargers out there.
This allowed Acros to add a whopping 400km of range onto his vehicle in five minutes flat.
BYD plans to make the chargers available outside of China
BYD has no plans to gatekeep the ground-breaking technology.
The automaker has already announced it plans to license it to other carmakers and charging operators outside of China.
While currently only available in China, BYD intends to collaborate with local EV infrastructure companies to have them installed at gas pumps around Europe and at dealerships.
As yet, there’s no word on whether the megawatt chargers will be coming to the US, but it could be a game-changer for the industry.
